The best sources for yacht repairs in Malta

The following businesses are my absolute first time go to sources for yacht repairs, spares and solutions in Malta. If they don’t have it in stock, which would be surprising, they will get it in a couple of days.

valletta malta harbourPlease do not waste your time trying to source other businesses or “get it cheaper”. The fact is that the majority of the other businesses are supplied by the businesses listed below anyway! One thing I will say, these guys are in great demand so try and book them.

Gauci Borda: Central Agent for: Lewmar & Gill. An extremely well established family chandlery business, the boss lady is Myra, an absolute fountain of knowledge with regards to all things boaty. If she cannot do it she will know someone who can and that person will be a professional, respectable  source. The store is based in Gzira near Manoel Island, it consists of three well stocked and floors of pretty much anything you need, she has enough stock to build a boat from scratch! Outside the fact that she pretty much stocks all the spare and parts any yachtsman would need, she is a wonderful person, really kind, generous and amazingly trusting.  really cannot recommend her enough. Ask for Myra (Director).

20160610-3RLR Marine: Central Agent for: Raymarine, Volvo & Musto. Close to Gauci Borda in Gzira. It is not so much the store that is the attraction but more the technicians, they are seriously good technicians. Any issues you may have with Raymarine or Volvo then these are the guys to go to. They do have a very good stock inventory, so parts are quick and easy to come by. I have always had a very good experience with RLR. the service has been quick, professionals and above all they are very reliable. Ask for Darius (Director) or Kurt (Senior technician  Raymarine)

Medway Marine: Stainless steel specialist. A one-man-band, Jo Cassar – based in Paula Industrial estate. He takes some getting to know but once you break through the rather frosty exterior he is a really fantastic Gent. An absolute artist when it comes to stainless steel, he can make just about anything! We twisted the main drive cog inside the Simpson Davit motor, he made a new one, quickly and to a higher standard than the original. His attention to details is second to none. He modified the top of the radar pole for us to accommodate not only the radar scanner but also WiFi antenna, satellite and two GPS antenna. Ask for Jo (Director) +356 99403366

20160610-7International: Central Agent for Jabsco. A ship chandlers at heart and based in Gzira, they stock lots of items, ropes, shackles etc…but there main speciality is Jabsco pumps. Large, small, high pressure, salt water, fresh water, fuel….you name it they have it! Again they are very knowledgable and extremely helpful. Ask for Paul Farrugia (Director) +356 21332747

Manoel Island Yacht Yard (MIYY): Yard haulage and lifting specialists. There are many ship yards in Malta, all with varying prices and looking to accommodate different sizes of vessel. We are 55ft, so for us the yard of choice has always been MIYY. They have always been very accommodating and the level of workmanship has always been professional. I have never had any serious refit work done by the yard, so I cannot comment on the capabilities of the specific departments but the lifting crew and paint department have always been excellent. The yard is not the cheapest but they are one of the larger yards with a strong, well established workforce to help you solve any issues you may have. Ask for Andrew (Yard Manager) or Norman (Yard Foreman).

Adrian Petrel: Woodwork & carpentry. Of Romanian origin, Adrian is a very unassuming chap, young guy, one’s initial reaction on meeting him is that he is not going to be capable. This initial reaction is completely unfounded, you will soon come to understanding that it is not that he isn’t capable more that he has an underlying confidence in his abilities where pretty much any project is not too difficult. He is a highly skilled and extremely conscientious artisan. Cannot recommend him enough. Ask for Adrian +356 79029077

Personally, if all site owners and bloggers made excellent content
as you did, the web shall be much more helpful than ever
